| Ferry Building The towered building survived two strong earthquakes; the first one in 1906 broke away part of the tower's facade and the second in 1989 merely bent the flagpole. That last earthquake so badly damaged the double-decked freeway that stood between the Ferry Building and the City that the freeway had to be torn down, returning the once-orphaned Ferry Building to its status as the landmark anchor at the east end of Market Street. |
