Sheltie Glen Shagbark UDT |
Danny was owned by Nelson & Jeanette Sterling, and appears to have been trained and handled by
Nelson. Jeanette gave this report of Danny earning his UD, which was published in the Spring 1957 Shetland Special:
Yesterday was a happy day for all of us. We went
to the Troy show and Danny earned his second leg on Utility degree. He placed third in his class, with
a score of 187 ½. He had several poor sits and after High Jump and Bar Jump he ran to Nelson each time
and jumped up and down like a Yo-yo! He was excited because he knew he'd jumped correctly. Forgot to
sit in front of his master. and finally jumped around to Heel position so lost points twice. Spectators
loved him, and clapped as he left the ring! (Me, too!) Later. We now have a U.D. Sheltie. Danny earned
third leg at the Bronx show Saturday. He scored 188 and placed first. He lost 10 points for his happy
"Yo-yo" act at end of each jump, - too bad. Glad to see his happy spirit, however.
Carolyn Langdon assisted
Nelson in the tracking training of Danny, of whom she said, "Danny can track, and well." After failing one test only three weeks earlier,
Danny passed his TD test at the Obedience Training Club of Rhode Island on November 17, 1957, and the title was published in the January 1958 AKC Gazette.
